Carrot Seeds - Flakkee (Flak) - Reliable, Large & Heavy Cropping (700 Seeds)

Carrot - Flakkee (700 Seeds)

The "Star Buy" Maincrop – Thick, Robust Roots for Heavy Yields.

Flakkee (also known as Flak) is a legendary maincrop variety, highly recommended as a "Star Buy" for any serious vegetable gardener. Known for its incredible vigor and resilience, Flakkee is one of the most reliable carrots you can grow, capable of thriving even in relatively poor soil conditions where other varieties might struggle.

Each pack contains 700 seeds, producing impressively large, thick roots with a vibrant orange colour throughout. While it is a heavy-cropping maincrop variety, it is also highly versatile—ideal for successional sowing to ensure a continuous supply of fresh carrots from summer through to the end of autumn. With its excellent flavour and solid texture, it is a top choice for roasting, soups, and long-term storage.

Robust Performance in Any Soil – The Gardener's Reliable Heavyweight.

  • Exceptional Versatility: A maincrop hero that can be sown successionally for a harvest that lasts from June until November.

  • Large, Thick Roots: Produces weighty, blunt-ended carrots that are packed with flavour and high in beta-carotene.

  • Thrives in Poor Soils: Unlike more delicate varieties, Flakkee is notably resilient and will produce good results even in less-than-perfect garden soil.

  • Superior Storage: Its thick skin and robust nature make it one of the best varieties for storing over the winter months.

Growing Instructions

  • Variety: Flakkee (Maincrop)

  • Pack Size: 700 Seeds

  • Position: Full Sun; adaptable to most soils, but prefers stone-free earth.

  • Sow Outdoors: April to July.

  • Sowing Depth: 2cm (0.75in).

  • Spacing: Rows 30cm apart; aim for roots to be 5–7cm (2–3in) apart.

  • Harvest: June to November.

Gardener’s Tip: To avoid the dreaded Carrot Fly, try to sow your seeds thinly to minimize the need for thinning later. If you must thin, do so in the late evening when the fly is less active, and always water the row beforehand to help settle the soil around the remaining roots. Never grow carrots on recently manured ground, as this will cause the roots to "fork."
